I got this phone as an alternative to the Yealink T19P E2 phones which we have many of along with Yealink T46G phones.

I wanated to see what the difference between the T42S and T19P were. The T42S has much the same functionality but has a more modern look and illuminated BLF buttons and mute/headset/speaker phone buttons. In general the this looks exactly like the little brother of the T46G.

The other major differences to the phone is that it has a gigabit passtru port which is very handy and also supports twelve SIP accounts (Voipon list it as having 3), which for me is totally pointless but could be handy for some.

The phone uses the standard auto deployment config as both the T19 and T46 and I was able to get it up and running in no time at all, needed to make a minor tweak to the config file to be specific to this model but nothing show stopping.

In short, this is a great basic level phone, if you don't need a colour screen then you could do worse than this. It's about double the price of the T19P so you will have to justify to yourself if it's worth it for you or not.
